May 2 Update to Return to Play Protocols

May. 03, 2021

The Manitoba Lacrosse Association Board of Directors voted on Sunday, May 2nd to add the following revisions to the current phase (Phase 2) of the Return to Play protocols:

Masks

  • Masks are required for all participants both indoors and outdoors.
  • Non-compliance or improper mask use during a game may result in automatic ejection at the discretion of the officials.

Contact

  • Limited contact permitted on ball carrier only. No off-ball contact.
  • No contact permitted along the boards.

Spectators

  • Spectators at any sporting activity in Manitoba are not permitted at games or practices. However, the public health orders include the exception that each child under the age of 18 who is participating may have one parent/caregiver attend while maintaining a separation of at least two metres from others.

In addition to these revised protocols, while remaining in Phase 2 of the Return to Play, the MLA Board of Directors has postponed all sanctioned gameplay until May 27th. During this time, clubs and teams may continue to practice and scrimmage amongst themselves under the restrictions of Phase 2, but competition outside of their team is not permitted.

The province is experiencing a major uptick in transmissions among children, with many schools moving to distanced learning due to concern of the spread. This postponement is to limit the spread of COVID-19 among children from different areas across the community.
